I know you miss your mama,
I miss your mama too.
But mama's mama needs her now,
so, what are we to do?

My Dear Child,
I just got your letter -
along with the key,
and I wanted to thank you
...
Of all the poems that I could write,
of all the subjects grand,
of this sweet tale, I think I might -
the girl who took my hand.
...
It was one of those magical times
when the world around you dresses up
in its brightest, cleanest,
most ornate garments and
...
I woke to a familiar friend -
his coming unexpected.
He came in softly in the night -
his presence undetected.
...
The rain has been falling
what seems like forever.
I'm not really certain how long.
It's no good attempting
...
I felt the warmth of the sun today.
I wondered where he'd been.
I'd missed the bright and pleasant ray
and couldn't remember when
...
The sun shines through my window now.
My senses drink it in.
I lift the shades up and allow
its warmth to touch my skin.
...
Green...everywhere the earth is budding
forth in vernal hues. My senses are alive, anxious
to shake off the dull sameness of winter.
...
It seems so busy in the fall,
with hurricanes and storms and all.
It throws the leaves, it drives the rain,
...
The trees can teach us, one and all,
to stand up straight, to stand up tall.
That only God…or man's cruel hands,
can make such mighty creatures fall.
...
Well, I grew up thinking a furlough
was a missionary home from the field.
And making the rounds through their churches,
for support and for prayer they appealed
...
The things we say, the words we write
can baffle and confuse a lot.
Especially when the word we use,
we can't be sure is right or not.
...
I loved Dr. Seuss...and it
still makes me smile.
You might even say
I'm a Seussamophile!
...
I fight, even though I may lose.
To accept lazy speech, I refuse!
For the perfect word's there.
Seems we're just not aware
...
An old friend appeared at my door
Philosophically changed at his core.
He said, through his tears,
'After so many years,
...
Well, I am a bonafide Irishman!
A chip off the old Blarney stone.
And Scottish and tall as
the great William Wallace.
...
The world would be a better place,
if it were not for people.
For more than just a few of them
are senseless witless sheeple.

Missing Mama (A Poem About Dogs)
I know you miss your mama,
I miss your mama too.
But mama's mama needs her now,
so, what are we to do?
For she must go and help her.
You know that's how it works.
And if we asked her not to go,
well, wouldn't WE be jerks?
Mama's go where they're needed most,
to bring a smile to sorrow.
And though she won't be home today,
there's always hope tomorrow.
The house is quiet with her gone.
No laughter fills the air.
It goes to show, there's quite a hole
to fill, when she's not there.
'Cause no one loves like mama.
And no one has that touch,
the soft caress, the warm embrace,
that we miss, oh so much.
So, each of us, in different ways,
is grieving in our heart.
The emptiness grows stronger still,
each day that we're apart.
We wander through the empty rooms
and wonder as we roam,
"How can it be a single soul
can make a house a home? "
But there's no doubt, I know it's true,
this change in atmosphere.
The joy, the magic - all are gone,
whenever she's not here.
With each new knock upon the door,
the dogs spring from their places.
I know they're hoping that it's her.
It's sad to see their faces.
I know the look, I know it well.
I see it in the mirror.
I close my eyes and strain to try,
and I can almost hear her.
They say, I think, it's sometimes good
for friends to be apart.
It makes you value them the more,
this one who holds your heart.
I know she's there to help her mom,
and so, for them I'll pray.
But all the dogs and I will cheer,
when Mama's home to stay!
