Alone at the beach
with hundreds surrounding me
Calm asserts itself
Cruise ships crawl seawards
Starfish grapple tiny fry
Gulls circle above
Sun rays caress kelp
Incoming waves unsettle
The tide comes closer
The old crab trap sinks
New sailboats disturb bitterns
Time to face traffic
Nice poem. The descriptive element is eloquent and direct. The opening sets us up for a solitary experience despite all the action from the humans, the wildlife, and of course, the ocean. I enjoyed your poem.
Liked the closing line; a masterful reality check. Humorous and relatable too.
I concur with Rob's comments. You are a master at capturing detail like a camera lens zooming dynamically in and out. Pure and unadulterated observation. Each line acts as a standalone snapshots of a single second on the beach.
I was on the beach today with no one else that I knew feeling that alone but not alone feeling!

Have to appreciate the times when you are alone, it never last long especially on a beach. In the end it is still back to the crowd. Thanks for a lovely read.
Thank you so much. And I agree....there is something about solitude. Too bad so many just don't understand.
