Now is the midnight of my contemplation.
In the morn my duty calls.
In the dark there is no loud frustration,
no urgent matter to me doth there fall.
I contemplate my life's decisions.
I contemplate the world and its haste.
I contemplate my squandered gifts,
the things that escaped me that I did not give chased.
I contemplate and think about the things all thinking beings doth thinkest on,
and somewhere in my inner parts the lyrics to a song.
At the midnight hour I think and ponder,
on the everlasting life here yonder.
I contemplate these words I write, that do feel
much to much like the words of a man,
when I a woman be,
where is the frill and lace and dainty?
Doth contemplation wear the pants
and the lyrical a girl that calls faintly?
Why does her voice feel stolen by the night?
Will she ever make it to the light?
Now is the midnight of my contemplation.
I ponder on my youth.
Those days of freedom and loud elation.
The quiet years that followed.
The love, the fight, the strive, the knuckle down of those times that's gone.
I contemplate my misery, my joy, my right, my wrong.
I ease my troubles with happy thoughts.
I drink a sip of mirth.
And fill the darkness with a light for all that it is worth.
This was the midnight of my contemplation.
It is now the start of morn.
The night begins to shake off the dark gown, that it till now has worn.
A hour or two and the Cock will crow,
and planted in this garden of thought,
a few little words in a row.
