Being Male Poem by Yohan Confectioner

Being Male

being a male
isn't easy
as they
make it seem

to carry the burden
of strength
when the weight of life
wears and tears you down

to shoulder
your girlfriend,
to support
your parents,
to compete at
your job,
to excel at
your career,
to get the applause
of your peers,
to be
and let that be
be the finale of seem
to think of yourself
your needs,
and if space permits it so,
your wants

by 30
you have to be
as they term it:
sorted

the ones
who made it
are glorified
put on a pedestal

They've already sold
Every last drop of their soul

the ones who are
making it
find no consolation
you are either
first
or last

where do you
go
when you feel
low

not your girlfriend,
she'll find you
a pansied
faggot
and find the shoulder
of a so called man

not your parents,
they are in their
second childhood
and you are the parent
now

not your friends,
they've made
their lives
and have none for yours

life is
an endless sea
of wants
goals
desires
ambitions
places to go
and places to see
places to eat
and places to be

our gluttony for life is endless
our needs perilous
we burn it
till the last embers
die

the more
we reach out
the less
we reach within

the ones who reach within
the poets
the philosophers
the thinkers
the sufferers

the ones who
find themselves
within silence
and space

the ones who
as Ulysses proclaimed,
traversed beyond
the utmost bound of human thought

the ones
deemed useless
lazy
the ones who put nothing
on the table
the ones searching for truth
in an ocean of lies

there's no value
at gnawing at your guts
you'll never make them
proud son

shut the lamp
stub the cigarette
it's time
to go to bed.
